We invite you to create your own photo essay and submit for publication
on the Deai Photo Essay Cafe website. You may receive comments or
questions from high school students from countries all over the
world!
Those who submit a photo essay will receive
* The Way We Are 2005, a photo collection from TJF annual "Lives
of Japanese High School Students: Photo and Message Contest"
* Each month we will select a teacher by lottery from among those
who have conducted photo-essay making sessions with their students,
and provide the teacher with teaching materials worth JPY5,000
or its equivalent.

How to create and submit your own photo essay
Photo essays should include the following items:
(1) Essay about yourself with title
- In Japanese (approximately 1,000 characters) or English
(500 words)
* You may use Chinese or Korean in
place of Japanese. You may also use two or more languages.
- Save the data in MSWord format. Title the
file using the format: “your given name + family name initial +
essay.”
(2) Approximately five photographs to go with the essay
- Please include yourself in at least one photograph.
Prepare captions to accompany each photograph.
* Photographs may be of any size. Either color or black and white
is acceptable.
* Photographs taken on digital cameras are also acceptable. They
should generally be about 530 pixels x 350 pixels in size.
* Make sure to keep the negatives or data for all photographs submitted,
in case TJF later needs them for posting your photo essays on the
Deai Photo Essay Cafe website.
- Save the data in JPG format. Title each
photograph file using the format: “your given name + family name
initial + photograph number.”
(3) Instructor and students entry forms
- Please download and complete the designated
forms.

“your given name + family name initial + entry.”
- Attach all the data (1) through (3)
to an e-mail and send it to the address given below. You may also
save the data onto a CD-ROM and post it to the address given below.
If the digitalization of photographs is difficult, mail the prints
by post.
(4) Deai Photo Essay Cafe website permission form
- Please print out and complete the designated
form giving permission to TJF to reproduce your entry on its website
and possibly in other publications.

* Try as much as possible to inform the conditions and obtain the
signatures of any persons beside yourself whose faces can be clearly
seen in your photographs.
