お父さんとお母さんは、地元の商店街で魚屋を営んでいます。お父さんがおじいさんからお店をついで30年になるそうです。両親のほかに、おじさん（お父さんの弟）とアルバイトの人が働いています。お父さんは、日曜日をのぞいて、毎朝5時半に市場に行って魚を仕入れてきます。みそ漬けもつくって売っています。昔からのなじみのお客さんが100人くらいはいるようですが、みんな年をとって食べる魚の量も少なくなっているし、不況も重なってお店の経営はけっこうたいへんみたいです。でも、お父さんもお母さんも毎日がんばって仕事をしています。ぼくは、ふだんはお店の手伝いをほとんどしませんが、年末など忙しいときには手伝います。

My parents run a fish shop in the local arcade. My father took over the shop from my grandfather thirty years ago. Also working at the shop are my uncle (my father's younger brother) and a part-timer. Every morning except on Sundays, my father goes to the wholesale market at 5:30 to stock up. He also makes and sells miso-zuke (fillets of fish marinated in miso). Although the shop has about a hundred long-standing regular customers, most are getting on in years and don't eat that much fish any more. With that and the general business slump, I hear business isn't as brisk as it used to be, but my father and mother give it their best every day. I rarely work at the shop, except at busy times like the end of the year.
