Students learn verbs used to express "wearing" clothes for the upper and lower halves of the body. In pairs, the students describe their partner's clothes. |
Worksheets
and other materials: Game: Nani o kiteimasuka? --- View Shockwave Flash File 341KB [Dowload] for Win ymi_nanio.exe (376KB) for Mac ymi_nanio.zip (338KB) To begin the game, press the black start button that appears in the upper right of the screen after you select either Yu’s or Takayuki’s icon. When you click the mouse on an article of clothing, the name for it appears in Japanese. Clicking on the name brings up the appropriate verb beside it. You cannot hear the pronunciation of the words in this game. Game: Watashi no fashion 1 --- Download Shockwave Flash File 83KB [Dowload] for Win ymi_fashion1.exe (110KB) for Mac ymi_fashion1.zip (83KB) A sentence will appear in the upper left of the screen. Drag and drop the appropriate clothing items onto the figure of the girl or boy to dress them as the sentence describes. A barking dog will appear when you have dressed the figure correctly, and you will move on to the next figure. There are a total of four figures. Game: Watashi no fashion 2 --- Download Shockwave Flash File 27KB [Dowload] for Win ymi_fashion2.exe (65KB) for Mac ymi_fashion2.zip (28KB) Drag and drop each article of clothing onto the appropriate verb. When you give a correct answer, the clothing will disappear into the verb bubble. When all the clothing is gone, wait for a moment and you can see a person wearing them. |
Ask
2-3 students to be volunteer models. The teacher puts a red piece of
tape on the front of each volunteer at the waistline to make a distinction
between the upper and lower halves of the body. The teacher demonstrates
describing their clothes.
|
|
The
teacher should be sure to describe the students' clothes by contrasting
those on the upper half of the body with those on the lower half. Let
the students point out that the teacher uses different verbs for clothes
on the upper and lower halves of the body. For practice, and to check
the students' understanding, have 2 or 3 students state what clothes
they are wearing on the upper and lower halves of their own bodies. |
|
Using
Deai, the students practice describing the clothes someone wears. Use game: Nani o kiteimasuka? |
|
Draw a human body on the whiteboard and mark its waist line in red.

|
Introduce
items like watches, glasses, and hats/caps with their related verbs.
Use game: Watashi no fashion 2
|
|
Have
the students get in pairs and prepare a description of their partner's
clothes. The teacher checks around and helps the students by providing
necessary vocabulary. |
|
Within
each pair, students should take turns describing what the other partner
is wearing. Suggest to the students that they perform a mock fashion
show. In the fashion show, direct the students to pay attention to
the way they walk and turn.
