Overview:
Using the results from Activity #3, students consider factors that may have influenced the students’ eating habits. (i.e., personal values, family, friends, school, community, the global community, etc.). Students may also consider the influences that affect their own eating habits.

Worksheets and other materials:
Worksheet #4
Worksheet #5
References: Eating habits in local areas / Japanese food, seasons, greetings /
Health--nutrient balance / O-bento (boxed lunches) / Eating out, shopping / Eating together as a family
Minna no shokuseikatsu hyo

Distribute Worksheet #4 and display the "Minna no shokuseikatsu hyo" chart or transparency. Students describe the eating habits of the Deai students and their classmates then using the "Reference" write the answers on Worksheet #4 in either Japanese or English (depending on their level).

Students will look back at their own eating habits, examine the influences that affect them, and record their answers on Worksheet #5 .

When looking at the characteristics of people’s eating habits, encourage the students to consider the following influences:

1. Personal tastes
2. Family
3. School and friends
4. Local community (local, country, and other countries)
5. Global similarities and differences

Students should begin to discover the multiple influences on their activities and actions within these cultural boundaries (See Reference on food.)
