Worksheet #4-1
Worksheet #4-2 Sample Expressions

Students describe the characteristics of their own school in Japanese on Worksheet #4-1. They may refer to the accounts of the seven Deai students’ schools from Worksheet #2, Activity 2. Have them refer to the List of Sample Expressions.

Tip:
If there are any students in the class who transferred from a different school, have them describe the characteristics of their previous school.

Tip:
Try to get the students to distinguish between more or less objective characteristics, like the school organization and facilities, and the atmosphere of the school as reflected in student behavior and character. Get the students to notice the factors that constitute school image by having them consider things like educational policy, history, geographical factors, religion, school subjects, and the community.

S1さんは、去年△△高校から来ましたね。
△△高校はどんな学校でしたか。
この学校とどんなところがちがいましたか。

What sort of school was ________ High?
What aspects were different from this school?
となりのXX高校はどうですか。 What is our neighboring school ________ High like?

Students form groups of five or six and discuss the characteristics they described on the worksheet.

Students present highlights of their group discussions to the whole class.
