Akihabara
秋葉原
あきはばら

District in the northeastern part of Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo. The name derives from the Akiba Shrine, built there in 1870. It is famous for its hundreds of wholesale and discount stores specializing in electrical and electronic products, which had their origins in the black market that flourished in the area after World War II.
