Tobikyu refers to the system of early advancement to the next grade for students who excel or allowing them to skip a grade entirely. In Japan, this is not permitted, but in 1997, exceptional high school students considered to have scholastic skills equivalent or superior to high school graduates in either mathematics or physics were permitted to enter university upon completion of their second year of high school. The first second year high school student permitted to skip third year under this system entered university in 1998. ¡Ô¢ªtan'isei koko ñ°ÌÀ©¹â¹» credit-based high school¡Õ
