was found that 50% of both women and men like Japanese food, such as soba or
udon noodles. When women's lunches were examined, it was found they tend to eat
simple foods like sandwiches/pastries and sushi.

■When 5,100 junior high school students in Tokyo were surveyed, it was found
that the places where the students chat with their friends during out-of-school
hours was on the street (30.3%), and at fast food restaurants (21.4%). Still
more hang out at their friends houses (20.5%), and 6.0% at convenience stores.

■Items purchased at convenience stores
The percentage of housewives who say they often or sometimes shop at convenience
stores is 93.4%. Of housewives surveyed 55.6% said that they shop at convenience
stores more than they did three years ago. Foods housewives once usually shopped
for in supermarkets, but now buy at convenience stores include #1: milk and #2:
bread. For each item, 20% of the women surveyed said they bought it at convenience
stores.
