わたしはムーニーといい、カナダのアルバータ州エドモントンに住んでいます。ハリー・アインレイ高校の1年生です。全校生徒は2,100人もいるので、廊下はいつも生徒であふれ、時には自分の教室にたどり着くのも大変なくらいです。でも親切でおもしろい生徒がたくさんいるし、先生もとてもやさしいです。特に好きな科目は日本語、美術、化学です。得意なだけでなく、とても楽しいのです。趣味はアニメを描くこと、マンガを読むこと、友だちとコンピューターのチャットをすることです。運動はあまり得意ではありませんが、バドミントンを時々やります。コートの中を走り回る運動量の多いスポーツですが、来年はぜひチームに参加したいと思っています。わたしはイスラム教徒で、バングラディッシュ出身です。2歳のときにカナダへやってきました。イスラムの教えは祈りとアラーの神への崇拝です。毎日がとても忙しい理由は、通学にバスで１時間かかるので、朝は早起きをしなければならないし、学校から帰るとすばやく食事をし、着替えてモスク（礼拝堂）に行き、コーランを唱えるからです。モスクには週5日は通うので大変ですが、だんだん慣れてきました。

日本語の授業で、ネット上に紹介されている日本の学生のプロフィールを読む機会がありました。それぞれおもしろいことが書いてありましたが、とくに興味をもったのは坂井未知さんです。漫画や動物に興味があること、友だちと漫画についてよく話すことなど、共通点がいくつかあったからです。野生動物を守りたいという点もすばらしいと思います。絶滅の危機にさらされ、苦しんでいる多くの野生動物を助けるのはとても重要なことだし、そんな気持ちから獣医になりたいという未知に、わたしもなんだかうれしくなりました。さらに読み続けていると、未知が200冊漫画を持っているのに驚き、とてもうらやましくなりました。なぜならわたしの両親は絶対許してくれないからです。写真を見ているときは彼女が家を離れて寮で生活していることや週末はホームステイしていることについて気がつきませんでした。さびしくないのでしょうか？わたしならきっとさびしいと思うでしょう。友だちと漫画についてよく話しをするという点では、わたしも「犬夜叉」「キャプテン翼」「らんま1/2」などいろいろな話を友達とします。未知からそれらの漫画や、まだカナダに来ていない漫画について聞けたら最高です。またここエドモントンで見ることのできない野生動物などを見ることができれば必ずいい経験になると思います。いつの日か未知に会って、よい友だちになりたいと思います。

 My
name is Mooney. I live in Edmonton, Alberta. I am in grade
ten and I attend Harry Ainlay High School. My school is
pretty big with 2100 students and sometimes it's hard to
get to your classes, because the hallways are almost always
filled with hundreds of students walking through it. There
are so many nice and interesting people that are in my school
and the teachers are very helpful too. Some of my favorite
subjects that I learn in school are Japanese, Art and Chemistry,
they are not only the subjects that I do well in, but I
find them all quite enjoyable. My hobbies are drawing anime,
reading manga and chatting on the computer with my friends.
I am not the most athletic person, but the sport that I
enjoy playing is badminton. You can get a lot of exercise
from running on the court and I am hoping to join the team
next year. My ethnic background is Islam, but I'm originally
from Bangladesh. I came to Canada when I was 2 years old.
The full purpose of Islam is to pray and worship god (who
we call "Allah" in my language). My daily schedule is kind
of hectic, because I get up early in the morning, go on
an hour long bus ride to school, then when I come home I
have to eat quickly and get dressed to go to the mosque
(which is kind of like a church) and I have to read Arabic
from a book called the "Quran". I usually go to the mosque
five times a week, so it gets kind of stressful but I'm
used to it.

In
my Japanese class, we had an activity to read through some
of the Japanese students' profiles that were posted on the
net. I thought that most of the students had some interesting
information about themselves, but the one person that got
my attention was Sakai Michi. I chose her, because I can relate
to some things like reading manga, animals and talking about
manga among friends. Michi is quite a wonderful person in
my point of view for wanting to save the wildlife around us.
I think that it is important to help them, because there is
so many animals becoming endangered and suffering out in the
wild. Her wanting to do something may make a difference and
I'm happy that she wants to become a veterinarian. When I
continued to read, I found out that Michi had up to two hundred
manga books. I was very amazed when I saw her collection,
she is so lucky I wish I was her, because my parents will
never let me have that many manga books. When I kept looking
at most of the other pictures I didn't realize that Michi
was in a dormitory and is staying with a host family on the
weekends. I thought if she ever feels lonely being so far
away from home. I know I would too. The last relation that
I have with Michi is, discussing manga with my friends. We
have a whole variety of books that we talk about like Inuyasha,
Tsubasa, and Ranama, etc. It's awesome
that Michi talks about that too and it will be even better
to hear about more mangas that probably didn't come out in
Canada, because I'm always interested and excited to hear
about those kinds of things. I also bet it will be an even
better experience to have some sight seeing of the wildlife
and looking at new things that you can't see in Edmonton.
I'm hoping to have a chance to meet Michi and learn more and
even become good friends with her.
