レベッカ：はじめまして。私の名前はレベッカです。十七才です。家族はお母さんとお父さんと一人っ子の私です。ニュージーランド人です。ヘイスティングスにすんでいます。ヘイスティングスの周りは果樹園やふどう園に囲まれていて、海も近いです。私は日本語が好きです。
   ニュージーランド人は英語を話します。そしてマオリ語を話す人もいます。
    私はスーパーのアルバイトをします。将来、りょこうがいしゃにつとめたいと思います。
Rebecca: Nice to meet you. My name is Rebecca. I am seventeen years old. In my family there are my mother, my father, and me (the only child). I am from New Zealand. I live in Hastings. Hastings is surrounded by orchards and vineyards. The ocean is also close by. I like Japanese. People in New Zealand speak English. We also have people who speak Maori. I have a part time job at a supermarket. In the future, I think I would like to work at a travel agency.
丽贝卡：初次见面。我的名字叫丽贝卡。17岁。家里有爸爸、妈妈和独生子的我。是新西兰人。住在Hastings。Hastings的周围有很多果树园和葡萄园，离海很近。我喜欢日语。
新西兰人说英语。也有说毛利语的。
我在超市里打工。将来，想在旅行公司上班。
クリケット：ニュージーランドはクリケットで有名です。クリケットの試合はネイピアでします。友だちと一緒に行きます。多くの人が見に行きます。
Cricket: New Zealand is famous for cricket. Cricket matches are held in Napier. I go with my friends to see them. Lots of people go to watch!
板球：在新西兰板球很有名。板球的比赛在Napier进行。我跟朋友一起去看比赛，去看的人很多。
すいえい スポーツ：私たちの学校では水泳大会は年に一回です。私たちは歌を歌ったり、ひるごはんを食べたりします。みんなは「いえ」のひとつにしょぞくします。「いえ」は青、赤、緑と黄色があります。私たちがしょぞくするいえの服をこの日に着ます。　
Swim Team: At our school there is a swim meet once a year. At the swim meet, we sing songs and eat lunch among other things. Everyone belongs to a certain “house.” The houses are blue, red, green, and yellow. So on that day we all wear clothes the color of our house.
游泳运动：我们学校一年举行一次游泳比赛大会。我们一起唱歌、一起吃午饭。大家都是「家」的一员。「家」有青、红、绿、和黄颜色。这天我们都穿上所属之「家」的颜色的衣服。
川：川には車で行きます。二十分ぐらいかかります。私は友だちと一緒に行きます。私たちは川でさんぼに行ったり、泳いだり、ピクニックをしたりして、キャンプに行くこともあります。
The River: We drive to the river by car. It takes about twenty minutes. I go with my friends. At the river we go on walks, swim, and have picnics. We have also camped there.
河：开车去河边需要20分钟左右。我和朋友们一起去。我们在那里散步、游泳、郊游等，有时也在那里野营。
がっこう：写真はヘイスティングス女子高等学校です。去年は私は日本語、タイプ、英語、家庭科、スポーツと地理を勉強しましたが今年は地理をやめました。日本語が好きです。学校でスポーツをしたり、勉強をしたりします。私はスポーツが得意です。ひるごはんに友だちと一緒に座って、話したりします。上の写真に夏の制服をきています。すてきじゃないですか！
School: This is a picture of Hastings Girls High School. Last year I studied Japanese, typing, English, home economics, sports, and geography, but this year I am going to drop geography. I like Japanese. I school I play sports and study among other things. I am good at sports. At lunch my friends and I sit and talk together. The above picture shows us wearing our summer uniforms. Aren't they great?!
学校：照片是Hastings女子高中。去年我学习了日语、打字、英语、家庭科、体育和地理。今年我没有学地理。我很喜欢日语。在学校运动或者学习。我体育很拿手，午饭和朋友坐在一起一边说话一边吃。照片穿的是夏季的校服。很漂亮吧！

   こんにちは！わたしの名前はレベッカで、四月で17才になります。ニュージーランドのホークス・ベイ州にあるヘースティングスという人口1万人ほどの町に住んでいます。

   わたしは両親といっしょに住んでいて、1人っ子です。お母さんは電池会社の営業をやっていて、お父さんはエンジニアとして食料用の缶をつくっている会社に勤めています。お父さんの会社のお客さんの中には日本に商品を輸出しているところもあるようです。ペットは愛する犬三匹です。

   わたしはヘースティングス・ガールズ・ハイスクールという女子校に通っています。日本語はもう3～4年勉強してますが、自分の文化とは違う日本の文化について勉強するのはとても好きです。今年が高校最後の年ですが、来年はセント・ジョージ・セモーズ・トラベル・アンド・ツーリズム・カレッジで観光について勉強したいと思っています。旅行が大好きなので卒業したら観光業界の仕事について世界中を旅していろんな文化を知りたいです。

   週末は友だちと遊んだり、スーパーでアルバイトをしています。夏は友だちとへースティングスから車で20分のところにあるビーチに遊びに行きます。ビーチはとてもきれいで、わたしはそこで泳ぐのが大好きです。学校とアルバイトは忙しいけれど、冬に時間があるときはタウポへスキーをしに行きます。

   趣味はスポーツで、学校ではネットボールとバドミントンのチームに所属しています。一番得意なのはバドミントンで、ホークス・ベイのアンダー16のチームに数年前所属していました。健康のために水泳もしています。

   ひまなときはヘースティングスから15分のところにあるナピエルにお母さんか友だちと洋服を買いに行きます。いろんな音楽を聞くのも好きです。

   わたしの町にはテマタ・ピークというところがあり、ヘースティングスではいちばん高いところです。そこからは少し離れたところにある海とナピエルまで見えます。

   クリスマスに家族とサウス・アイランドの南の方にあるティマルに住むおじいちゃんとおばあちゃんに会いに行くことがあります。お母さんはそこで生まれて、わたしが生まれる前までずっとそこに住んでいました。サウス・アイランドはわたしたちが住むノース・アイランドより寒く、多くの人は冬にサウス・アイランドの山にスキーをしに行きます。

   これでわたしの生活が少しわかってもらえたでしょうか。読んでくれてありがとう。

   フォトエッセイを読んで、日本の文化にとても興味を持ちました。たとえば、日本の女の子の麺の食べ方はニュージーランドでナイフとフォークを使って食事をするのとまったく違います。おはしが使えるようになれたらいいな、と思います。ほかにもエッセイを読んでみて、みんなが何をして遊んでいるのか知ることができました。日本の同年代の人に会ってもっと彼らの文化について知りたいです。

Hello! My name is Rebecca and will turn 17 in April. I live in New Zealand in a town called Hastings situated in the province of Hawkes Bay that has a population in total of over 100,00 people.

I live with my parents and I am their only child, my mother is a Sales Representative for an international battery company, my father is an engineer for a company that supplies food cans to a company that exports some of its products to Japan. I have 3 pets dogs which I love dearly.

I attend Hastings Girls High School which is an all girl's school. I have been studying Japanese for 3-4 years, I enjoy learning about the Japanese culture as it is very different to my own culture. This is my last year at Senior high school and next year I hope to get a place St George Semors Travel and Tourism college where I will learn about being in the Tourism industry when I finish my schooling I hope to work in the travel industry as I like to travel and I've always wanted to see the world and learn about different cultures.

At the weekend I like hang with my friends and go to work part time in a supermarket. In the summertime my friends and I go to the beach as it is only a 20 minute drive from Hastings, the beaches here are beautiful and I enjoy swimming in the sea a lot. In the winter I like going to Taupo and skiing if I get a chance as I am busy with school and work.

My interests are playing sports such as netball and badminton I play both sports for my school. I specialize in badminton as it is my favourite sport and I played for Hawkes By under 16's a few years ago. As well as playing badminton at club level I enjoy swimming which I combine to keep fit.

In my spare time I go to Napier which is 15 minutes from Hastings, in Napier I go shopping with my mum or friends I love to shop mostly for clothes also I enjoy listening to all types of music.

A special thing you can see from my town is Te Mata peak which is the highest point in the Hastings locality and you can see for miles to the sea and also you can see Napier in the distance.

At Christmas time my family and I sometimes go to the South Island to visit my grandparents who live in the lower South Island in Timaru were my mother was born, she moved up here before I was born. The south island weather is a lot colder than compared to up here in the North Island, a lot of people over the winter time go to the south island to ski as there is a lot of mountains with snow on them.

I hope this gives you a glimpse into my life. Thank you very much for sharing a little bit about my life.

My comments on the other students featured in the photo essays are that I found some essays that really interested me in their cultures, such as the Japanese girl that was eating her noodles that is very different to New Zealanders as we use a knife and fork to eat our food. I would like to learn how to use chopsticks, also I enjoyed looking at another essay of two Japanese people and finding out what they do in their own spear time. I would like to meet my peers and find out more about their culture.

   你好！我的名字叫丽贝卡，四月就17岁了。我住在新西兰的Hawkes Bay州的Hastings,是一个人口有一万人左右的城市。

   我是独生子，和父母住在一起。妈妈在电池公司做销售工作，爸爸是工程师，在制造食品灌的公司上班。爸爸公司的客户中也有向日本出口商品的。宠物是三条狗,我很喜爱它们。

   我在Hastings女子高中上学，日语已经学习了3、4年，我很喜欢学习与自己文化不同的日本文化。今年是高中的最后一年，明年开始想在St George Semors Travel and Tourism college学习观光知识。我很喜欢旅行，毕业后我想做旅游业工作，到世界各地旅游，了解各种各样的文化。

   周末我和朋友们玩或者在超市打工。夏天和朋友一起开车去距离Hastings20分钟的海边玩。海边很漂亮，我喜欢在那里游泳。学校和打工很忙，但是冬季有时间的时候还是去タウポ滑雪。

   我的爱好是体育。在学校我加入了Netball队和羽毛球队。我最拿手的是打羽毛球，几年前所属Hawkes Bay16岁以下的羽毛球队。为了健康我也经常游泳。

   有空闲的时候我和妈妈或者朋友去距Hastings15分钟的Napier 买衣服。我还喜欢听各种音乐。

   我们市里有个叫Te Mata peak的地方，是Hastings最高的地方。从那里可以望见远处的大海和Napier 。

   圣诞节有时和家人去见住在南岛南部的Timaru的外祖父母，妈妈出生在那里，在我出生之前一直住在那里。南岛比我们住的北岛冷，很多人冬天去南岛的山里滑雪。

    读了写真随笔，我对日本文化产生了很大兴趣。比如，日本女生吃面的方法和新西兰用刀和叉子吃完全不同。我想如果我也能用筷子吃该多好啊！我也读了别的随笔，知道了大家玩什么。希望能与日本的同龄人相见，更多地了解他们的文化。

    Although Rebecca is also from NZ, I do not know a lot about the place where she lives, so I learnt what there was to see and do in Hastings. She wrote about the things she likes to do in her spare time. It was good to give lots of details on this, as I know that teenagers would like to learn a little about new things, so they can decide whether to try them themselves. I liked how Rebecca told me about her family, and their pets. She also wrote about what her friends like to do. I agree with her that New Zealand is a great place, and in her essay, Rebecca is very friendly - like most New Zealander’s are. Her essay was very interesting.
