ぼくの家族と犬のディラン。家の前です。ディランはとても元気なので写真を撮るために押さえています。

This is my family, including our dog Dylan at our old house. Dylan is so energetic we had to hold her down to take the picture.

5歳くらいのとき、家族の集まりで。マイケル・ジョーダンがシカゴブルズにいたとき大ファンだったので、彼のユニフォームを着ています。

This is me at a family gathering when I was about five. I was a big Michael Jordan fan when he played for the Chicago Bulls, so I am wearing his jersey

おじいちゃんと。話や冗談がとてもおもしろくて、ぼくはおじいちゃんが大好きです。おじいちゃんはぼくとトランプをするのが好きです（ぼくが勝ったとしても）。

Me hanging out with my Grandpa Plummer. He is one of my favorite people because of the jokes and stories he tells. He also loves to play cards with me even when I beat him.

ケイトリンとぼく。まじめな顔で撮りました。ケイトリンは幼なじみですが、今は大学に通うため遠くに住んでいます。

My friend Kaitlin and I. We tried to look serious for this picture. We have been friends for a very long time, but now she lives far away to go to college.

ぼくと兄のマイク、スキーに行ったとき山の頂上で撮りました。そこまで登らなくてはなりませんでしたが、景色はすばらしかったし、滑ってくるのは最高でした（何ヵ所か急なところがありましたが）。兄が住んでいるソルトレークシティがうしろに見えます。2002年の冬季オリンピックが行われたところです。

This photo is of me and my brother Mike on top of a mountain while skiing. We had to hike up there, but the view was great and the ski ride down was even better (although very steep in some places). Salt Lake City, the city my brother lives in, can be seen in the background. This is where the 2002 Winter Olympics were held.

ザベースボールライフ

はじめまして！

ぼくはジョンと申します。でも、日本語の名前はこいちです。マディソンに住んでいます。シカゴからきたへ250マイルぐらいのところにいちしています。冬はこごえそうなぐらいさむいですが、なつはあついです。ウィスコンシンのチーズとビールがとても有名なんですよ！ぼくは17さいの高校の四年生です。かぞくはりょうしんと兄とぼくです。父は50さいです。ちょっと古いですね！父は建築家です。だから、しごとねっしんときながな人です。母はりがくりょうほうしです。とても気さくな人です。兄は20さいです。ユタ大学に通う。スキーしたり自転車をのったりすることが好きです。わたしたちにディランとしめされるゴールデン・リトリーバーがいます。ボブディランの名前をとってなづけられた。

じゅぎょう日

毎日に6時におきる。そのあと、自転車で学校に行く。6時半から7時半まで、水球を遊びます。学校で朝ごはんを食べます。学校は8時半に始める。ぼくの一番目のクラスは日本語です。日本語の三年生です。12時に友だちと昼食を食べます。わたしたちはひんぱんに昼食のためのマクドナルドに行く。昼休みの後、ぼくはバンドクラスを有する。ぼくはテューバをします。音楽が大好きです！その後、建築のクラスを有する。とてもおもしろくて楽しいクラスです。今、建築のしごとばをいっしょをつきます。学校は3時半に終わります。学校の後、家へ帰ります。けいしょくを食べたり、テレビを見たりします。6時ごろ、夕食を食べます。そのあと、れんしゅうします。時々、プールをするか、または本を読みます。つうじょうおよそ11時にねます。

野球

ぼくは野球が大好きです。3年生まで遊んだ。がいやしゅだった。でも、よい打者でなかった。今、野球をひんぱんに見、聞きます。わたしのこのみのチームはミルウォーキーブルワーズです。それらはヤンキーほどによくない、でも、ミルウォーキーはマディソンにこんい。夏休みにゲームの多い行きます。ブルーワーズのきょうぎじょうはミラーパークです。ブルーワーズは1982 年につよかった、またすぐにそういうことがあるといい。

ぼくのしょうらい

6月にそつぎょうする。来年、ウィスコンシン大学に行っています。日本語のせんこう学生。ぼくは建築家になりたいと思う、ぼくの父のように。ついに、日本に住みたい。

わたしは、特に大石勘太について勉強することにしました。彼の生活スタイルはとてもおもしろいと思います。ぼくもよく読書をするので、彼が本を読むのが好きなところに興味をもったのです。また彼の演劇に対する情熱はすごいと思います。小説家になりたいだけに、彼のエッセイはとてもよく書けていて感心しました。彼の毎日の生活はとても忙しく、ほとんど睡眠もとらないようです。ぼくにはとてもできません。写真もとてもきれいで第三者の目から彼の生活を捉えていました。とてもいいフォトエッセイだと思いました。

The Baseball Life

Nice to meet you!

I am John, and my Japanese name is Koichi. I live in Madison where is located around 250 miles away to north from Chicago. It's freezing to death in winter here but hot in summer. Cheese and beer are very famous in Wisconsin! I am 17 years old, a senior student. There are my parents, big brother, and I in my family. My father is 50 years old, (old!) and an architect. He is hard-working and patient. My mother is a physical therapist and very friendly. My big brother is 20 years old, and goes to University of Utah. I like skiing and cycling. I have a golden retriever called Dylan that was named after Bob Dylan.

School days

I wake up at 6 every morning and go to school by a bicycle. I enjoy swimming from 6:30 to 7:00 and have a breakfast at school. Classes start from 8:00. My favorite class is Japanese. I am a third year student in a Japanese class. I have a lunch with my friends at noon. My friends and I often go to McDonald's for lunch. I take a band class after lunch. My part is a tuba. I love music! After that, there is an architecture class which is very interesting and amusing. Currently I go to the building site. School finishes at 3:30, so I go home and eat a snack and watch TV. I have a dinner around 6:00. After dinner I start practicing tuba. Sometimes I go to swim or read a book and go to bed around 11:00.

Baseball

I love baseball. I had played it until I became a third grader. I was an outfielder and not a good batter. I often go to see and listen to the games in these days. My favorite team is Milwaukee Brewers which is not as good as the Yankees. However I'm fond of it because Milwaukee is close to Madison. I go to see a lot of games during summer break. The Brewers' field is Millar Park. They were very strong in 1982. I wish they would be strong again.

About myself

I'm graduating this June. I will be going to University of Wisconsin next year. I want to major in Japanese and become an architect like my father. I want to live in Japan.

I chose to focus on Kanta Oishi while studying the Deai students. He lived a very interesting lifestyle. I thought could relate to his interests in reading, which I often do too, and I respect his devotion to theater. I was impressed with his essay, which was written very well perhaps because of his dream to become a novelist. His daily schedule was very rigorous, and he often got little to no sleep, which I could never do. The photographs in the set were very good at illustrating his life from a third person view. It was a very well done photo essay.
