ニューヨーク市公立高校陸上競技予選クイーンズ地区で一位になる。全米で25位。

The New York public high school track and field preliminary was held in Queens and our team took first place. That makes us 25th in the state.

マンハッタンの裏千家を訪問してお茶の作法を学びます。かけ軸の習字に関心が深く、級友のマイラさんに説明をしています。

We visited Manhattan's Urasenke teahouse and studied "tea manners." I was deeply interested in the calligraphy on a hanging scroll so I explained it to my classmate, Maira-san.

お茶はにがいので飲みきるのに苦労しています。クラスは日本語を学びながら日本文化に大変興味がありますので、文化の行事に参加します。

Because the tea was bitter, it was difficult to finish all of it. Because we are all also interested in Japanese culture in our Japanese language class, we all participated in a Japanese culture event.

カルロスの高校生活

私は高校三年生です。私はフランシス・ルイスのクロスカントリーチームのキャプテンです。今年、クイーンズ地区で私のチームー位に入って、来国では二十五位に入りました。私と友達は一生懸命訓練をしました。1968以来、うちの学校だけがチャンピオンとして入りました。
冬は屋内のトラックのシーズンに出場して。キャプテンになります。精一杯スポーツをがんばって、他の教科もよい成績を取ります。
私は三年間の日本語のクラスに入っています。日本のリーゼントテストを受けて、日本語のクレジットをもらいます。またジャパンボールにも参加をします。それから、私はJROTCの一員です（JROTC stands for Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps）。これはアメリカの軍隊に入るための準備のクラブです。これに入るためには、まず教科の成績がよくて、スポーツができることが入部資格です。毎日、放課後、軍隊としての訓練を受けます。いろいろなプログラムがあります。それを一つずつ習得して、ペンダントをもらいます。それを制服につけます。毎週、水曜日にJROTCの制服を着て、授業を受けます。コーチはU.S.の軍隊の先生ですから、とても厳しいです。しかし、このJROTCのメンバーであることは青年たちの憧れでもあり、誇りです。

日本の高校生の生活環境はよく理解できます。私的な生活の部分が多くなると、考え方などよくわかって、仲間としての意識が高まり、もっと身近に感じられます。

Carlos's High School Life

I am a senior at Francis Lewis High School. I am the captain of the school's cross-country team. This year, my team came in first place at the Queens, and 25th in the States. My friends and I train very hard. My school hasn't won the championship since 1968. This winter I will become the track team captain. I will participate and work on this sport very hard.
I have taken Japanese for three years. I will take the Japanese Regents and get credits for my college. I will also join the Japan Bowl. I am in JROTC (Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps). JROTC is a club that prepares students to be disciplined. In order to join the track team your grades must be high and you must play sports very well. I train everyday after school. There are many programs in that club. Every Wednesday, we wear the uniform and do work. My teacher was in the U.S. Army, so he is very nice and I am happy that JROTC has a strong desire for youngsters.

I am able to understand the environment in which the daily life of a Japanese high school student takes place. If the person shares much of their private life, I can understand that person's way of thinking and so forth, become friends with them, and feel more familiar.

Hey there Maika, in the United States we have Cross Country which basically means running across feilds and a course that is marked usually in high school the 5,000 kilometers, usually ran in on hills and wooden areas and the honest reason I took japanese was that it was one of the best choices for me I didnt like spainsh and I wanted to try something new and Japanese was a great choice....
