I've
found that most people describe me as "weird" or "strange."
I guess I am sometimes pretty strange, but usually only
around people I know. For some reason, whenever I am around
people I don't know very well, I am somewhat quiet. That's
not to say that I won't ever talk to anyone I don't know,
because if I didn't, then I would not have any friends.
However, I think I am far more open around people I know
well. Although I am lazy, it's just because the task that
was assigned to me isn't something that I like to do. For
example, I have a hard time setting my mind to doing homework
in a class I don't like, but I can easily get homework done
in a subject that I prefer.
I was born in 1991 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Our family has
moved a lot, and in that case, we moved away from there
a few months after I was born. So, I don't really remember
much at all about Las Vegas. Then, we moved to Indiana,
the state where I have spent most of my life in (we stayed
there for about eleven years). The first memory I have that
I can remember is in my preschool, and there I was making
a papier-mache hot air balloon. I had several friends in
preschool, but I don't really remember any of them. In kindergarten
I had a lot of friends too. For the most part, everyone
in the class was friends with each other. However, after
winter break from kindergarten, I was transferred into a
first grade class, with big first graders that, well, kind
of scared me. Luckily, I made friends there easily, even
though I was constantly teased for being small and younger
than everyone else… Even to this day, people still don't
believe me when I talk about my age. After first grade,
we moved to another house about a half an hour away from
our old house. I didn't mind too much, because I was young
and I wasn't really "best friends" with anyone. In second
grade through fifth grade, I was in a special kind of class
called GT (which stands for Gifted and Talented). I made
several friends there, as well- both second and third graders
at the time, because the classes I was in had two grades
in the same class at the same time. Eventually I was in
the 5th grade, and I remember that it was a huge deal because
we were finally going to be "big kids," and go to middle
school, where you changed classes without having to stand
in a single file line led by the teacher. As the year was
ending, the teacher put a fake locker door in the classroom,
and we would always go over and try to open it. Soon enough,
we went to middle school. I made several new friends in
the class. All the girls in our grade and "team" were best
friends with each other, because we all had the same classes
together. I even discovered my current favorite hobby that
year—watching Japanese anime and drawing/reading manga,
Japanese comics. At the end of that year, however, I had
to split up from the group, because my parents decided it
was time to move again. So, we moved here to Virginia, and
we have been here ever since. This year, I entered high
school, which was another exciting experience. I like my
high school, Western. It has a lot of different choices
of classes you can take, which is really nice. There are
a lot of different languages to choose from, and many different
electives.
When I was very small,
I wanted to be a lot of different things. Pretty much anything
looked exciting from where I could see. However, once I
entered second grade, I decided that I wanted to be an artist.
Since I can remember, I have always loved drawing, and I
used to have piles upon piles of coloring books and picture
books I had drawn. At the time, I wanted to be an artist
for Disney, because I loved movies like
The Little Mermaid,
and
Beauty and the Beast. After sixth grade, when
I discovered anime and manga, I decided that I wanted to
be a manga artist, because I really loved the art in manga
books, and pictures I had seen on the internet. I was especially
fond of the series that I had been allowed to buy (at the
time, my parents did not like me buying that sort of thing),
Fushigi Yuugi and
Magic Knight Rayearth.
I loved how the eyes were big, and they had all sorts of
pretty designs in it. I also loved the beautiful hair that
the characters had, and all I wanted to draw my own. But
right now, my desire to be a manga artist still remains
dominant. I don't just want to be a manga artist, though.
I want to be able to create something original, something
that is completely different, and something that will make
the reader think. I also want to be able to make characters
that are memorable, but still able to be identified with.
I love series that are like that—for example,
Hagane
no Renkin Jutsushi or
Serial Experiments Lain.
Also, I want to be able to look back on something I made,
and be able to refrain from thinking it is stupid or lame.
I do this a lot. I don't know if it's just because I'm an
artist or if it's because I'm over critical, but I am rarely
satisfied with my own work. I guess that's just a part of
my personality.
As well as drawing,
I love to read. Manga aside, I like books that are fantasy
or sci-fi genre. I think these books are interesting to
me because they could probably never happen, or will not
happen for a long time, and so it's fun to imagine what
it would be like to be a part of that story. As for the
kind of manga I like to read, I like pretty much all kinds
of manga. I like both
shonen and
shojo
manga. The shonen manga I like are
Hagane no Renkin
Jutsushi (this is my current favorite), and pretty
much anything in the magazine
Shonen Jump, which
I get in the mail. My favorite shojo manga series are basically
anything by
CLAMP,
Paradise Kiss,
Gokinjo
Monogatari, and
Fruits Basket. My favorite
anime series/movies are
Cowboy Bebob,
FLCL,
and pretty much anything by Hayao Miyazaki. I also love
to draw
doujinshi for series that I really like,
which I did do for
Cowboy Bebop and
Angelic
Layer. I am currently working on a
doujinshi
for
Hagane no Renkin Jutsushi.
Other hobbies that I have include playing the guitar; sleeping;
eating; talking; and hanging out with my friends, who I
love lots. Basically, I am a strange Japanese-cartoon-and-comic
lover and artist who has moved many times. Yup, that's me
in a nutshell.
