I am a high school student
that loves sports. For example, soccer, basketball, and
badminton. Of these, soccer takes up a large part of my
life.
My experience with
soccer began on my fourth birthday. The special present
that my father gave me was a soccer ball. Since then, I
have been forever attached to soccer. As far as I can remember,
I wore out four different balls by the time I finished
elementary school. The price of one ball was quite expensive
for my family at the time.
I was most obsessed
with soccer when I was in middle school. Every time I kicked
a ball until it wore out, my father insisted that he wouldn't
buy me a new one. But within a few days, a new ball appeared
like a rainbow upon the end of rainfall. In this way, soccer
and I have been attached for 15 years now. However, since
I entered high school, I haven't had time to play soccer
much.
Even Batistuta couldn't
resist his own aging, and many people must have been saddened
by this. But to me, he was a very strong person that forever
refused to give up hope. This is why I revere him, and
see him as a “role model” in my soccer life. He has led
Argentinean soccer all these years. His best trait is his
sincerity. Because of his sincerity, he's lost a lot, but
also gained so much more. Soccer has allowed us to become
good friends. I root for Batistuta, just like any other
enthusiastic fan of his. He will always be my star.
I can always relax
when I play soccer. When I kick the ball hard, if I raise
my left arm high and pull my right foot back, my body stretches,
and I feel like I am soaring through the sky or swimming
through water. The moment I kick, I summon all of my strength.
The ball goes higher and higher, and paints a beautiful
arch in the sky. As I watch the ball fly farther and farther,
I feel so refreshed.
The ball is so light!
I head the ball, then trap it with my chest, hit it with
my knee, hold it down with my shin, kick it up with my
ankle, then trap it on my toe. The ball flies around like
a fairy, comes and goes lightly, taking with it my worries.
Soccer has an elegant
beauty to it. When I see international stars play, they
pass their opponents just by shifting their weight, and
effortlessly pass to their teammates. When the ball is
skillfully handled by them, it becomes an elegant artwork.
Watching these games is so fun.
But soccer is also
a sport that expresses strength, and passion. When the
soccer ball flies far, it stirs up a great wind with it,
and creates excitement in people's hearts. When a shot
bounces off the goalpost, I can feel the shivers. Soccer
has the power to create great emotion, stir one's blood,
and refresh one's heart at the same time.
This is what soccer
is. Open, light, elegant, and filled with strength and
passion. All of this brings about fun. We become nervous
with the ball's movement, excited, frustrated, then excited
again, all within the span of ninety or so minutes. Every
time the ball is stolen, passed, shot, or scored it brings
about delight. After the game, the worries I had disappear
beyond the clouds.
I love soccer. Soccer
will always hold an infinite fascination for me. |
