マイ・ストーリー
わたしは1986年11月20日にウィスコンシン州メナーシャというところで生まれた高校2年生、17歳の女の子です。性格は社交的だと思います。いつ誰に対してもいい人であろうと心がけています。少しだらしないところもありますが、学校は大好きで、バスケットボールチーム、ソフトボールチームのほかに、生徒会にも所属しています。趣味は読書と映画鑑賞で、夏にはローラーブレードやサイクリングに出かけるのも好きです。
家族
両親と姉、私の4人家族です。両親は2人とも教師で、父のジムはわたしの通っている学校で体育を教えています。父の影響で小さいころからスポーツは大好きでした。今でもスポーツは好きで、父には感謝しています。母は違う小学校の2年生を教えています。母と私は外見も考え方もとてもよく似ています。2人でよく洋服や靴などを買いにいきます。いつもいっしょにいられるので両親が教師でとてもよかったと思います。わたしはとても甘やかされていて、両親はわたしのすることには協力的です。幼いころは3歳年上の姉のカレンとはよくつまらないことでけんかをしましたが、今はとても仲よしです。姉はわたしが中学のときに高校を卒業し、今は歯科助手になるための専門学校へ行っています。学校には最初の2年間は自宅から通っていましたが、昨年の9月にボーイフレンドといっしょにアパートへ引っ越しました。今でも映画を見に行ったりローラーブレードをしたりしてよくいっしょに遊び、何でも話すことができる姉です。家族はとても大切です。
友だち
たくさんの友だちがいますが、本当に親友とよべるのは少しで、サラとケイトとは小学校1年生のときからの友だちです。ジェリーは3年生のときに転校してきましたが、仲よくなったのは中学生になってからです。今まで、友だちはいろいろ変わりました。5歳のときからずっと仲よしだった子は高校へ入ると変わってしまい、いろいろ悪いことをするようになり、もうつきあうのをやめました。ホリーとトリーシャもここ数年で仲よくなりましたが、サラ、ケイトそしてジェリーがいちばん長い友だちです。月に1度はお泊り会をし、1晩中映画をみたり、食べたり、おしゃべりをしたり、ケイトの家のジャグジーに入ったりします。学校の昼食時間は地域に公開されているので、私たちは外で食べたりもします。また、週末にもよく集まります。夏には近くのダンスクラブに行って踊るのが好きですが、たまには友だちを招待し、誰かの家でダンスパーティーをしたりもします。とにかく楽しいことが大好きです。
スポーツ
スポーツが大好きで、バスケットとソフトボールをしています。チームプレイを通して多くのことを学びました。バスケは4年生のときからやっていて、今年は選抜チームに選ばれました。バスケのシーズンは4ヵ月で、練習はかなりきついですが、楽しくもあります。コーチはよく週末の朝に皆を朝食へ連れていってくれます。今年はとてもよい成績を残せたので来年もがんばろうと思います。ソフトボールは小学校3年生からやっていますが、高校に入るまで学校にチームがなかったので、夏のあいだだけ、父がコーチをしていたチームでやっていました。今年はソフトボールでも選抜チームに選ばれました。ソフトボールはシーズンが短いのですが、なにより外でプレイできるところが大好きです。夏はリーグ戦もあります。来年も続けるつもりです。
学校
メナーシャ高校という公立高校へ通っていますが、あまり好きではありません。好きな科目は英語です。文章を読むことと、書くこともまあまあ好きです。今年とっている文学と作文の授業は、本を読み、それについて書き、話し合うというもので、大好きです。化学も好きで、来年はもっと難しいクラスをとることにしました。きらいな科目は数学で、微分積分はとても難しかったので来年はとりません。小学校1年生から日本語を勉強していて、今年は11年めになります。日本の文化について学ぶのは大好きで、特に日本料理をつくるのは楽しいです。ブラスバンドにも入っていて、5年生からクラリネットを吹いています。コンサートをしたり、パレードで行進したり、フットボールやバスケットボールの試合で演奏したりします。特にフットボールのハーフタイムショーで演奏するのがいちばん好きです。学生の声を学校側に反映するための生徒会にも所属しています。毎年タレントショーを開催して、資金集めをします。友だちやいろいろな活動がわたしの学校生活を楽しくしています。
ボーイフレンド
彼の名はエリックといい、1年先輩の18歳です。最初は友だちとして知りあい、その後つきあいはじめて6ヵ月になります。友だちづきあいからはじめたので、お互い気心が知れていてよかったと思います。コンピュータにとても詳しく、スーパーでアルバイトをしています。わたしほど学校での活動はしていませんが、わたしのすることには協力的です。バスケの試合はほとんど見に来てくれるし、友だちといっしょに出かけたりもします。週末にはボーリングにいったり、ミニゴルフをしたり、映画や夕食に出かけたり、ビデオを借りてきてどちらかの家で見たりします。2人だけでビデオを見るのがとても好きです。彼はとても紳士的で、食事や映画に行ったときにはわたしの分も払ってくれます。彼は見た目は気にしないので、週末の試合のあとにデートするときは、シャワーを浴びたあとお化粧などしないでスウェットパンツをはいて出かけます。彼は今年卒業で、来年にはここから30分ほどのグリーンベイにある大学へ進学します。今までのようにいつも会えなくなるのはさびしいですが、これからもずっといっしょにいられればいいと思います。
休暇
私の家族はみな旅行好きで、たいてい全員が休みの春休みに旅行をします。小学生のころは2度メキシコへ行きましたが、暖かいし海がきれいなので大好きです。8年生のとき修学旅行で首都ワシントンDCとニューヨークシティへ行きました。家族と離れて友だちと1週間いっしょに過ごしたのが楽しかったです。2年前はアリゾナへ行きました。今年の春はブラスバンドの旅行でパリへ行きましたが、彼がいっしょだったので特に楽しく、お城やエッフェル塔、オマハビーチやルーブル美術館に行きました。とても美しい町で大好きです。そのとき、フランスでコンサートをしましたが、ひとつ大変だったのは誰もフランス語がしゃべれないことで、言いたいことを伝えるのに大変でした。知らないところへ行くのが好きなので、これからもいろいろな国を訪ねて見たいです。いつか日本にも行ってみたいと思います。
将来
高校を卒業したら大学へ進学しようと思っています。今はどこの学校へ行くか決まっていませんが、マディソンかミルウォーキーまたはミネソタツインシティに行くことを考えています。マディソンとミルウォーキーは両方ともウィスコンシン州内で、私が住んでいるところからだいたい2時間くらいのところです。それより近いところには行きたくないけど、帰りたいときにすぐ帰れないようなところはいやなのです。どんな仕事をしたいかもまだわかりませんが、英語が好きなので大学では英語を専攻して英語の教授か高校の先生になるか、歴史や音楽も好きなのでそれらに関した仕事か、人と接する仕事など好きなことができればいいと思います。そしていつかは結婚し、自分の家庭を持ちたいです。わたしにとって家族は大切なものなので、子どもが4～5人いる大家族がいいです。でも大学へ進学するまでまだ1年あるので、今は将来のことより学校を卒業することに集中しています。 |

The Life of Kristine
I
was born on November 20, 1986 in Menasha, Wisconsin, USA.
I am now a junior at Menasha High School. I am 17 years old.
I like to think of myself as out-going and friendly. I try
to be a well-rounded person and nice to everyone. I am a messy
person but my school work is very important to me. I play
basketball and softball for my high school and I am in student
council. I really enjoy reading. It's my favorite hobby. I
also like to go rollerblading and biking in the summer. I
really love watching movies too.
My Family
I
have four people in my family. There is my mom, my dad, my
older sister, and I. My parents are both teachers. My dad,
Jim, is a physical education teacher at the high school I
go to. My dad got me into playing sports when I was young.
I'm grateful that he did because I still am involved in sports
now. My mom, Kathy, teaches second grade in another school
district. My mom and I are very similar. We like the same
sort of things and I look a lot like her. Our favorite thing
is going shopping. We both love buying new clothes and shoes
and everything. I like having both my parents as teachers
because they are home whenever I am. I get along with my parents
really well and love them very much. They are very supportive
of me in all that I do. I also am very spoiled. My sister,
Karen, is three years older than I am. When we were younger
we didn't get along at all. We would always fight over little,
stupid things. Now we are really close. She graduated from
high school before I started high school. She is now going
to technical school to become a dental assistant. The school
is close to where we live so she lived at home for two years.
Just this last September she moved into an apartment with
her boyfriend. We do a lot of things together and tell each
other everything. Karen and I go to see movies together and
like to go rollerblading. My family is very important to me.
My Friends
I
have a lot of friends but there are only a few who I consider
my closest friends. When I was in elementary school I met
Sara, Kate, and Gerri. Sara and Kate have been my friends
since first grade. In third grade Gerri started coming to
our school. She and I started being good friends in middle
school though. Over the years my friends have changed. The
girl who was my best friend ever since we were five years
old changed when we got to high school. She started making
bad choices that I didn't want to get into. So we aren't friends
anymore. I am also good friends with two girls, Holly and
Trisha. We've gotten to be better friends in the past few
years. But Gerri, Kate and Sara have been my best friends
the longest. We have a lot of fun together. At least once
a month the four of us plan to have a movie sleepover night.
We stay up all night watching movies, talking, eating, and
sitting in Kate's hot tub. My friends and I like to go out
to eat together. At our school we have open campus for lunch,
so we get to go out wherever we want to eat. On weekends we
get together too though. We also like to go dancing. There
is a dance club that is close to Menasha that we go to in
the summer. Sometimes though, we have our own dance parties.
Someone just invites people over and we play music and dance
at their house. We just like to have fun.
Sports
I
play basketball and softball. I love playing sports. It keeps
me active and I learn a lot from playing on a team. I've been
playing basketball for school since fourth grade. This year
I was on my school's varsity team. Basketball takes a lot
of work and dedication. The season is four months long, but
we have fun too. Our coach used to take us out for breakfast
on some weekend mornings. We played pretty well this year.
I plan on playing next year as well. I've been playing softball
since I was in third grade. School softball doesn't start
until you're in high school, so I played during the summer.
My dad used to coach the team I played on when I was younger.
This year I was also on the softball varsity team. Softball
is a shorter season, but I like it because we play outside.
We also play in a league during the summer. I plan on playing
softball next year too.
School
I
go to public school at Menasha High School. I don't really
like school that much. My favorite subject is English. I really
like reading and I kind of like writing. This year I took
a literature and composition class. All we did was read books
then write about them and have class discussions. I really
liked that. I also like chemistry. I'm taking it this year
and I signed up for a harder chemistry class next year. The
subject I really don't like is math. I'm in calculus this
year and it's really hard. I've decided not to take a math
class next year. It will help make my senior year less stressful.
I have been taking Japanese since I was in first grade, so
this year has been my 11th year learning Japanese. I really
like learning about Japanese culture and it's really fun when
our teacher lets us cook in class. I'm also a part of the
school band. I have been playing the clarinet since fifth
grade. I like everything we do for band class. Along with
playing concerts, we get to march in parades and play at our
school's football and basketball games. The most fun thing
is playing halftime shows at the football games. And I am
in student council. As student council we represent the student
body. We put our voice to the administration and vote on things
for the school. We also have tons of fun. Every year we put
on a talent show for the school and we run fund raisers. My
friends and all the activities I am in make school fun for
me.
My Boyfriend
My
boyfriend's name is Eric. He is almost 18 years old and is
a senior at the school I go to. We have been together for
about six months. We started to get to know each other this
school year and we became friends. Then we started dating.
I'm glad that we were friends first because we already knew
each other and were close before we started dating. We have
lots of fun together. He's really into computers and he works
at a grocery store. He isn't as involved with school activities
as I am, but he's supportive of the things I do. He came to
most of my basketball games during the season. We like to
hang out with large groups of our friends too. Usually on
weekends we go bowling, mini-golfing, to see a movie, out
to dinner, or we rent a movie to watch at one of our houses.
He acts like a gentleman too. He usually pays when we go out
to eat or to see a movie. I like it when just the two of us
stay in and watch a movie at home. I usually have games on
weekends, so I shower quick and then we hang out. He doesn't
care how I look or what I wear. I just throw on some sweat
pants and don't bother with putting on make-up. Eric is graduating
this year. Next year he is going to college in Green Bay,
a city about 30 minutes away. I'm sad that I won't get to
see him as often as I do now, but I'm glad that he's not going
to be any farther away. We're going to stay together next
year and hopefully we will after I graduate too.
Vacations
My
family likes to travel. We usually take trips over spring
break when we all have off school. I have been to Mexico twice
when I was in elementary school. I loved it there. I really
like warm weather and the ocean was beautiful. In eighth grade
we took a class trip to Washington D.C. (the United States
capitol) and New York City. It was so much fun because I was
away from my parents and with my friends for a whole week.
We got to see so many things. My family then went to Arizona
two years ago. I liked the warm weather there too. Just this
past spring I went to Paris. It was a band class trip. Once
again it was so much fun to be away from my parents seeing
amazing things. It was especially special for me because my
boyfriend went on the trip too. None of my good friends went
on it, so I got to hang out with him the whole time. We visited
a castle, the Eiffel Tower, Omaha Beach, and The Louver. I
loved the city of Paris, it is really beautiful. As part of
the trip we got to play concerts in France. The only difficult
thing was the fact that none of us spoke French. Sometimes
it was hard to get your point across. I love traveling and
seeing new places. As I keep getting older I plan on continuing
to visit different countries. Hopefully some day I'll visit
Japan.
My Future
Once
I graduate from high school I plan on going to college. Right
now I'm not sure where I want to go though. I am considering
going to Madison, Milwaukee, or even to Minnesota-Twin Cities.
Madison and Milwaukee are both in Wisconsin and both are about
two hours away from where I live. I don't want to be any closer
to home than that. But I don't want to go so far away that
I can't come home when I want to. I really don't know what
I want to do for a job. Since I like English a lot I am considering
English as my major in college. I would like to be an English
professor or high school teacher. But I also like history
and music and could do something with those. I do want to
work with people in my job. No matter what, I want to like
what I do. I plan on getting married sometime in my life.
I want my own family. Since my family is so important to me,
I want to have a big family myself. I would like to have four
or five children. Right now I'm just concentrating on finishing
this school year. I still have my whole senior year before
I go to college. |
