Hi
my name is A.J. I am 16 years old. Both my parents were
born in Italy. Even though I was born in Australia I feel
I'm more Italian than Australian. Being involved in the
ethnic community I find myself doing things that normal
Australian families don't do. I enjoy being apart of the
Italian community but it dose have a few set backs. I find
myself being caught up in being discriminated against my
race. But enough of that. A great thing about being different
is we have days where my family and friends get together
and we make home made salami. We don't just make salami
we also have other days where we make wine, tomato sauce
and bread. I love participating in these days because it
is fun and is a great time for my family to catch up with
each other. I hope that we keep these traditions going on
for many years.
Out of school I find I don't have much spare time. Some
of the things I like doing are playing Australian rules
football, going to the gym and going hunting with my brother
and cousins.
We go hunting for many things. We mostly go out at night.
When we go hunting at night we use a spotlight. A spotlight
is a high powered torch. The spotlight has two purposes.
Obviously it lights up the area, and when you shine the
light in the animal's eyes it stuns the animal so you
can get a clean shot. I enjoy hunting very much. When
you are in the paddock it is very exciting and the adrenalin
gets pumping through your body, and at the end of it you
get the satisfaction of you catching the animal. Sometimes
we cook up and eat some of the game we catch. Some things
we hunt are foxes, rabbits, hares, many types of birds,
kangaroos, wild pigs and much more. All of the animals
we shoot are pests which destroy my uncle's farm.
One of my favorite things is cars. There is something
about cars that I just like. I don't just like one genre
of cars. I like the big muscle cars from American and
Australia. I also like the quick little Japanese cars.
My most favorite car from Japan would be the Mazda RX-8.
But my most favorite cars are European. Especially Italian
cars like Lamborghini, Maserati, Alfa Romeo, Zonda, and
Ferrari. My favorite car out of the Italian group is the
Ferrari 575m Maranello. It has a 5.7 litre V12 which punches
out 325KW and 589 Nm of torque. I would like to own one
of these cars if I ever have a spare AUD$577,000 lying
around. Every year I go down to Melbourne to watch the
formula one cars race around Albert Park. There's something
about racing that gets me too. I'm not sure whether it's
the deafening sound or the smell of high octane fuel being
burnt, maybe it's the huge crashes. What ever it is all
I know is it is the best feeling to be there and experience
the thrill and excitement which is F1 racing.
As a person generally I'm fairly easy gong. I like to
have conversations but I know when to stop talking. I
like to listen to other people's opinion but usually it
differs to mine. This then sometimes erupts into a heated
debate between me and my family.
When I grow up I would like to get away from the country
and move to the city and study law and accounting. Then
after university I would like to open my own firm. If
my law and accounting plans don't work out I would like
to carry on the family business and run my family's pizza
restaurant in the Melbourne. My father has run the restaurant
for 28 years. It would be good experience to experience
what my father went through all those years ago.
Thank-you for reading my essay and hope you enjoyed it
and now have a better idea what it is like living in a
small country town (which is an hours drive to the nearest
McDonalds store) in Australia and I hope you will be able
to experience it yourself if you ever have the opportunity
to come to Australia and visit us.
