I had high expectations for Miyagi because it was my first choice place to visit. All our team members were girls and we immediately bonded. I wish that I could have been more outgoing, though I did try my best. I’m not used to expressing my own opinions and engaging in discussion so it was a bit hard for me. It was a stimulating and fun experience, helping each other, furthering our understanding, and growing close.
The biggest change I experienced from the program was in my self-confidence. I like people, but I was never good at talking to others and communicating my own thoughts, so doing the interviewing was hard. I experienced a lot of new things, like talking to people I’d only just met, taking their pictures, interviewing them . . . During the program, which felt both long and short, my biggest achievement was learning how to muster courage to do something and how to interact with people.
