Otsukimi is an event where people enjoy gazing at the moon on the fifteenth day of the eighth month by the lunar calendar, which usually falls on September by the solar calendar. The moon on this night is called 'Chuushuu no meigetsu' or harvest moon, and it's considered the most beautiful moon of the year. Otsukimi night this year falls on 15th September.

お月見とは、決まった日に月を眺める習慣のことです。お月見の日は、旧暦の8月15日で、今の暦では9月になることが多いです。この日の月は中秋の名月と言われ、一年でもっとも美しく月が見られる日とされています。ちなみに、2016年の中秋の名月は9月15日です。
