Festival featuring dancing through the streets of Sapporo held annually in June. Inspired by his experience at the Yosakoi Festival held traditionally in Kochi, on Shikoku island, a university student from Hokkaido adapted the Soran-bushi, a local fishermens' song/dance, with Kochi's Yosakoi-bushi and launched the new version in 1992. Today it has become a leading early summer event in Hokkaido with the participation of 375 teams with a total of 30,800 dancers.
