Kokusai-dori (International
Street)
国際通り
こくさいどおり
One of the main streets in Naha, Okinawa's capital city. Between
1953 and 1975, Kokusai-dori (International Street) became the focal
point of a city emerging from the ashes of the World War Ⅱ. Named
after the Kokusai Gekijo, a popular movie theater in those days,
Kokusai-dori is approximately 1.6 kilometers long, roughly
the equivalent of one mile. The avenue represented Okinawa's rapid
postwar reconstruction, and was often referred to as the "Miracle
Mile." |
