Shibecha-cho

しべちゃちょう
Shibecha-cho is a township in the eastern part of Hokkaido, covering
an area of 1099.56 square kilometers. Centering on a business district
located 40 kilometers northeast of the city of Kushiro, the township
extends partly into the Konsen Highlands and the Kushiro Marsh.
The climate is cold and humid and sunlight hours are short. It developed
in pre-World War II years as a center of horse-breeding and after
the war as a diary farming area. Pop.: approx. 9,600 (2001). |
