Message from the photographer
Throughout the photo shoot, I wanted to capture different moments of Lena. Lena is not Chinese, Korean or Japanese. She is Hmong and I wanted to show off the Hmong culture in many ways. I have managed to show the Hmong culture with the help of my sister. She is usually shy in front of the camera, since she hates pictures taken of her. I manage to convince her that the pictures I take of her are beautiful and to get her to be in the photos. The impression she has shown to me during the project was that she has improved on her self confidence and now believes in herself. She would usually glare at the camera because she hated it. Now that I have taken so many pictures of her; her expressions toward the camera have improved. Her posing skills have improved too. I think I have given my sister something she is good at now.
About the subject
Lena is a sophomore in high school. She is actually my little sister but I tend to treat her like a best friend instead of a little sister. Usually, I don’t call her little sister because she can be more mature than I am. Her patience and kindness is what makes me jealous of her. I chose Lena because her face is cute. I love her shyness when I take pictures of her.
