【1】Making Artificial Intelligence with Feeling
Recently a short-form novel that was written using artificial intelligence passed the first screening for the Hoshi Shinichi Award, a literary prize for short science fiction. Professor Matsubara Hitoshi, a pioneer in AI research, has been working on the development of this AI. Matsubara says that the more he researches AI, the more he realizes how amazing the human being is. He is determined to develop an AI robot that can share human feelings and be aware of its own feelings.

• Research on artificial intelligence has had its boom times and its doldrums. It is currently enjoying a third boom.
• Professor Matsubara pursues research on computer-played soccer through the RoboCup and computer-played shogi in order to more effectively promote awareness about AI research.

2016年の第3回「星新一賞」で、人工知能が書いた作品が1次審査を通過し、メディアに取り上げられた。その研究に関わって来た松原仁さんは、日本の人工知能研究の先駆者だ。人工知能を研究すればするほど、人間の偉大さに驚かされる、という松原さん。「鉄腕アトム」の様に、人間の感性を理解し、自分で悩むことができる人工知能ロボットの開発に向かって、日々研究を重ねる。

・人工知能の研究は、これまで「ブーム」と「冬の時代」を繰り返してきて、今は第3次ブームが起きている。
