Each class studies in its own room 《→kurasu/homu rumu クラス／ホーム・ルーム class/homeroom》, except for subjects that require special facilities such as physical education, music, art, science, etc. Although the classroom setup varies from school to school, there is usually a blackboard at both front and back and rows of desks and chairs. The seating order is fixed, and is usually changed on a regular basis. The classroom also has a bulletin board for posting announcements and displaying students' work, lockers for storing their bags and other items, cleaning equipment, and speakers of the school's public address system. Some classrooms also have a television monitor, as well as heating and air conditioning equipment.
