Minato Mirai 21
みなとみらい21地区
みなとみらい21ちく
This is one of Yokohama City's major redevelopment projects and
encompasses a major portion of its harbor area. The project began
with the relocation of a whole shipyard followed by extensive landfill.
Today, Minato Mirai 21 is a leading business and tourist center
including international convention facilities, museums, office complexes,
and the world's largest Ferris wheel. In 1989, it was the site of
an urban exhibition to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the
Yokohama municipal administration and the 130th anniversary of the
opening of Yokohama port entitled "Yokohama Exotic Showcase (YES
'89)," which attracted over 13 million visitors. |
