Overview:
Eight activities for getting to know the seven Deai students. Includes game-style self-study quizzes using the Deai Website, answering questions from the Deai students, and considering global issues raised by the Deai students' stories.

   
Part 1: Exchange students  
[Activity1] Interview インタビューしてみましょう
Themes: Self, Family, Friends; A Day in the Life

Students understand and analyze the Japanese culture shown in the photos, and express their ideas about what they have learned. In the process of knowing the character, students explore Japanese culture and experience it.

Part 2: Family life and celebration
[Activity1] What do you find? さがしてみましょう
Themes: Housing; Clothing and Fashion

While the new topic being introduced to the class, students brain storm and explore their interests into Japanese culture shown in the Deai photos. Students write questions about the photos and explanations to their own photos.

[Activity2] Shitte imasuka しっていますか
Themes: Annual Events; Ceremonial Occasions

While playing games, students deepen understanding of Japanese culture shown in the Deai photos. They also compare them with their own culture.

Part 3: Leisure and fitness  
[Activity1] Nanto itte irudesho 何と言っているでしょう
Themes: Spare Ttime

Students pretend to be the characters appeared in the Deai photos and make conversations in Japanese. Students create stories that can reflect their understanding of Japanese culture and Japanese teenagers' life.

[Activity2] Kiite shitsumon ni kotaemasho きいて、しつもんにこたえましょう
Themes: Spare Time; School and Education

Students virtually interact with the Deai students. Students listen, process, and respond to spoken Japanese.

Part 4: Environmental issuess  
[Activity1] Creating stories ストーリーをつくりましょう
Themes: Social Environment

Students write in Japanese about the character or pretend they are the character. Students create stories which can reflects their understanding of Japanese culture and Japanese teenagers' life.

[Activity2] Motto shiritai? もっとしりたい?
Themes: Social Environment; Nature and the Environment

Students explore the environmental issues which are shown in the photos. They gather information about the selected areas in Japan and are asked to focus on the similar issues of their country/area.

Final Activity:  
  [Activity1] Mirai no Deai この人にであったら
Themes: Self, Family, Friends; A Day in the Life

This is a summative activity. Supposing that Deai characters are visiting them, the learners decide what activities they like to do together, where to take them, and so on. Learners use the information which they have collected about the character through working on other activities.
