Divide the students into six pairs or small groups. Distribute one photograph
from MY-D09 to MY-D14 to each pair or group. Students describe what they see
in each picture: Yu’s activities, the setting, and anything else. Write
the following form on the blackboard so students may follow it as an example.
Once the students have practiced in pairs or small groups, they present their
picture and description to the entire class.
(1) ゆうさんは がっこうで れきしを べんきょうします。
(2) ここは きょうしつ です。
(3) これは れきしの きょうかしょ です。 |

After
their presentation, each group answers questions from the other students (English
may be used). Students should use information in the captions. At the end students
in the group read the captions, choosing English or Japanese, depending on their
level.

 |
When
all of the presentations are complete, encourage the students to talk about their
impressions of the photographs-interesting things, similarities and differences
from their own lives, etc.

Distribute Worksheet #1 for
the following exercises.
- Use the sentence "Yu-san wa gakko de _________ masu" to write as
many sentences as possible in Japanese about what Yu does at school. Focus on
the things talked about in Step 4, but feel free to add other ideas.
- Use the example sentence from 1 to write about the things you do at your
own school.
- Use the sentence "Yu-san wa gakko de ________ masu ka" to
write questions for Yu. Base your questions on comments from Step 5.
