Display pictures of Yu eating various foods. Students use information from the pictures and answer questions from Yu’s perspective. If the answer is not apparent, encourage students to make intelligent guesses.

Pretend to be the person in the photos and answer the questions as led by the teacher. When you answer questions, use information included in the photos. If the information you are looking for is not included in the photos, try to imagine the situation and provide your own answer.

Students complete Worksheet #1-1, 1-2, 1-3 as homework.

(1) For questions 2 and 3, let students guess the answer first, and then give them the correct answer from the captions on each photo sheet.

(2) Worksheet #1 can be used as a warm-up, rather than as homework.

(3) Variation:
- Have students pretend to be a documentary film maker visiting Yu’s home and answer the questions.
- Students answer the questions as Yu’s mother encourage them to make appropriate “mother” comments.
