The "Club Activities" section of the Mini Encyclopedia

Show the students photographs of club activity scenes for the six other Deai students. Ask what club each Deai student belongs to and what kind of activities they take part in.

ゆうさんは、何のクラブに入っていますか。 What club does Yu belong to?
クラブでどんなことをしますか。 What kinds of things does she do in the club?
クラブの活動は、いつ、ありますか。 When do the club activities take place?

Students select the club activity that captures their interest and form groups around those clubs. (If the number of students in each group is not equal, the teacher may equalize them if desired.)

Distribute the photographs of club activity scenes for each Deai student to the respective groups along with copies of the captions and the "My Story" texts and a copy of Worksheet #3 to each student.

Groups share and discuss the reference materials and complete Worksheet #3.
As the students finish, distribute an OHP copy of Worksheet #3 to each group (or a large sheet of paper). Have each group complete the OHP sheet (or large paper) with a felt-tipped pen with the answers from their own worksheets.

Each group presents its answers to the class using the OHP sheet (or large paper). Post the OHP sheets (or papers) on the classroom wall (attach a backing sheet to make them easier to see).

After the presentations, distribute Worksheet #4 to each student and orally ask questions one through five.

Review Worksheet #4 once as a class. Exchange opinions and ideas. Assign it as homework (to be completed in Japanese) and suggest students refer to the content of the "Club Activities" section in the Mini Encyclopedia on the Deai website.

Tip:
If it is difficult for students to access the website, the teacher should copy and distribute the relevant portions beforehand.
